Motorbike protective equipment is essential for ensuring rider safety and comfort. Unfortunately, there are not many options available for women to physically try them on (specially clothing). In this blog I will take you through the equipment I obtained, difficulties, tips and recommendations, along with overall cost.

1.2.1- Mandatory Protective Equipment (PE) in the UK
In the United Kingdom the only mandatory protective equipment for motorcyclists is a safety helmet. The helmet must comply with specific safety standards. While not legally required, it's highly recommended to wear additional protective gear like:
Eye protection (visors or goggles)
Strong boots
Gloves
Suitable clothing to protect against injuries in case of an accident
1.2.2- Shops
To obtain mine I personally decided to visit different shops such as J&S Accessories Ltd, Mega Motorcycle Store, or Eurobikes Spain. When I couldn't find a variety of certain parts, I went straight to the annual motorbike event in Birmingham called 'Motorcycle Live' if you decide to go you will definitely not fail in your search. The shop where I found the right women PE is Mega Motorcycle Store.
The annual motorbike event in Birmingham is known as Motorcycle Live, and it's the UK's largest motorcycle show. It's a fantastic opportunity to see and try out a wide range of motorbike gear, especially if you're looking for something specific like a winter jacket. Plus, you get to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and meet fellow motorbike enthusiasts.
Note: Searching into different shops helped me to identify not just how comfortable I was with different types of accessories but also the right size for me. |
1.2.3- Equipment and prices
Below is a list of the PE I acquired. While there are cheaper alternatives, I personally opt not to compromise on safety. The decision is yours to make.
Accessory | Characteristics | Brand | Cost |
Helmet | Eurobikes Murcia | Schuberth C5 Flip Front Helmet (Eclipse Anthracite) | £589.99 |
Trousers | Mega Motorcycle Store | mondial 2 trousers | £249.99 + £12.99 |
Gloves | Held Air N Dry II Gore-Tex Gloves - Black (S) | £191.62
Boots | Alpinestars Web Gore-Tex Boots - Black (39) | £164.99
Jacket | Mega Motorcycle Store | Oxford Mondial 2.0 Ladies Jacket | £299.99 |
TOTAL | £1,250 approx. (excl. VAT) |
Note: Searching into different shops helped me to identify not just how comfortable I was with different types of accessories but also the right size for me. |
1.2.4- Tips
Consider buying specific accessories online for a better price.
If you know an exhibitor at the show, it can be beneficial as they often get discounts when purchasing from other booths. You may also receive a 5-10% discount yourself.
When buying a product in a store, you typically receive a discount for your next purchase. Therefore, if you plan to buy multiple items, it's advisable to buy them separately and wait for the discount before purchasing the second item.
